This evening the Raleigh County Sheriffs Department contacted us to inform Us that they had received information that a 14 year old juvenile made threats off campus to shoot up the school at Shady High on Monday. The Sheriffs department conducted an investigation which led to the juvenile being taken into custody and charged with making a terroristic threat. It was also reported to us that at the time the juvenile did NOT have the means to act on the threat.

Congratulations Cameron Shannon on being named one of the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) 10 finalists for the 2023 West Virginia Teacher of the Year. Finalists were selected among the Teachers of the Year from each school district. Recognizing these teachers brings honor to the profession, energizes students, enhances community respect for learning, and revitalizes teachers across the state. https://wvde.us/teacher-of-the-year-finalists-announced/?fbclid=IwAR2MkIHA0jYotM_ne3eacbjd_U6-WG9GP_A5fQjIgb2a7Rap0NDwe8oVMCc

STEAM Camp Beckley Stratton Middle School: STEAM Camp activities centered around the book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. Students focused daily on reading, writing, and mathematics addressing state standards. These lessons were addressed through direct teacher instruction sessions. The teachers use the book as a starting point for standard integration. Students also integrated reading, math, science, social studies, art, physical education, and technology to complete project/problem -based STEAM learning. A few of the STEAM camp activities included the WVU STEM TAC Hydraulic Claw constructions, demonstrations, and rebuilds; building windmills from discarded materials (partnered with WV State University), art projects, and technology for writing assignments and EGames.
